HEAVY SQUARE YUBA RIVER SIGNET RING || LEORA CORONEL

Regular price $290

This rectangular signet ring design was originally carved in wax, then cast in solid sterling silver. The silver is carefully inlaid with a unique piece of classic black and white granite from the Yuba River. The stone is polished to be smooth and shiny, and it sits just above the silver setting, which is a design element that enhances the overall masculine, chunky feel of this piece. This design is heavy, solid sterling silver and the weight of it feels very soothing when it’s on your finger. While it can be worn on any person and any finger you’d like.

Size: 6

A bit about the history and meaning of a signet ring:

The signet ring was initially a seal for authentication in early societies, later bearing unique engravings like family crests. Originally only for royals, by the 13th century, they became accessible to all citizens retaining their role in signing papers. Over time, they transitioned from essential tools to decorative symbols of heritage. Today, signet rings mark special occasions and serve as cherished family heirlooms, although they’re no longer used for legal signatures. The historical meaning of “signet” is that of “a small seal.” This engraved jewelry was used for sealing papers, letters, and important documents by the upper echelons of society. Because of this, signet rings were often referred to as “gentlemen's rings”.

In current times, the purpose and meaning of a signet ring has changed. A signet ring is often given as a coming of age gift, at either 18 or 21, symbolizing a moment in a person’s life. Signets are also given as a gift to commemorate one’s graduation, promotion, milestone birthday etc..

This piece is made to order with natural materials, so you can expect some variation form piece to piece(see the last photo for an example of said variation). Each is one of a kind.

A percentage of the profits from all pieces from The Yuba Collection will donated to The South Yuba River Citizen’s League or California Heritage Indigenous Research Project.

|| ABOUT LEORA CORONEL ||

I’ve been a jeweler for much of my adult life, and although it started with me gluing chunks of materials together (shout out to the first feather earring wave in 2005 lol), I felt a deeper pull to the craft of adornment. Following the creative call, I started exploring metalwork and lapidary work, slowly building my skills and experience over the years so that I could more artfully create the visions that I had in my mind. In 2010 I launched Gather Jewelry, which became a solid brand and business in my local community and online. In 2022, I retired Gather and I am continuing to make my hand-forged metal & stone jewelry under my own name.

I live in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of Northern California and it is from this place that I find my inspiration—as well as some of my materials—like locally sourced minerals from the Yuba River. My designs are informed by a lifetime of fascination with ancient battle gear and weaponry, as well as all the stark magic found in the earth and all its kingdoms.
