NATURAL RED CORAL | According to ancient Greek mythology, after Perseus killed the “sea monster” Medusa, he took her head and put it on the riverbank. After some time, he observed that the blood seeping from Medusa’s head had transformed the surrounding seaweed into a hard stone, thus creating Red Coral. Coral was once believed to be a plant, but is now known to actually contain living animals called polyps. Coral is result of accumulated skeletal masses from these polyps. Records dating back thousands of years confirm that coral was used in decorative art objects and jewelry. It was believed to prevent ill fortune and offer protection from skin disease when worn as a necklace. Dreams about coral are believed to foretell recovery from a long illness. Some groups of ancients believed that Mars was composed of red coral.
No. 8 TURQUOISE | Turquoise has many powerful physical, emotional and spiritual healing properties. It has the ability to create wholeness, communication and spiritual expansion. It is also said that turquoise can attract personal power and wealth.
Consisting of 10 claims, the "#8" Turquoise Mine was discovered in 1925, just north of Carlin, Nevada. It was mined from 1929 until 1976, when all 10 claims were purchased by a large gold mining company. After the last turquoise miner left in 1976, it became a purely gold-mining venture. The turquoise removed by the last miner sat in his warehouse, untouched for decades until he died. Years later, the warehouse and all of it's "#8" turquoise was bought by my step-grandfather Gene. Today Gene cuts, treats and distributes this stunning high-grade natural turquoise, world famous for it's "spider webbing".
SILVER ON SILVER | Silver is a metal known to conduct lunar energy, the archetypal feminine energy, mystery, introversion and the unconscious. It’s associated with the element of earth and activates all seven main chakras in the human body.
MOTHER OF PEARL | Mother of Pearl is not the pearl itself, but the nourishing substance that lines the womb in which the Pearl grows. “In mystical tradition, it’s been used to heighten intuition, psychic sensitivity, and imagination. It’s held to attract prosperity, protect from negative influence, and transmute negative energy. It’s also protective and a particularly potent stone of protection for children, just like its namesake suggests. Additionally, a traditional lore use of Mother of Pearl is to purify environments. In the metaphysical tradition, Mother of Pearl is used to access primordial and racial memories. Crystal healing and folklore say that Mother of Pearl is helpful for high blood pressure, dizziness, improving vision, cataracts, and wound healing.” - gaia.com
|| ABOUT GATHER JEWELRY ||
My name is Leora Coronel and I hand-forge Gather Jewelry in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of Northern California. Working from my home studio, I create small batch and one of a kind pieces that are inspired mostly by my forested mountain surroundings, some ancient battle gear & weaponry and the materials that I use in my designs. When I’m not working on Gather Jewelry, I can often be found tending to the vegetable garden, attempting to forage for wild foods, hanging with my cats, dogs and husband, admiring rocks at the river or kitchen witching whilst sipping my tequila.
