To sense the world through smell connects us to the most ancient part of our brains, our olfactory system is our taproot to deep memory. When you smell the fragrance of a plant, you are hearing it speak to you; botanical scent is chemical communication. Our Plant Perfumes are entirely plant based, so to smell the Plant Perfumes is to enter the collective memory of plant and human conversation.

WOLF SHEPHERDThe Wolf Shepherd is a Spirit of the edge. He is the wounded healer of the Slovenian forest and field. The limping Wolf Shepherd summons the wolves to roam in the winter and dismisses them from the pastures in the spring. He maintains the tension and balance of the wild and tame. The Wolf Shepherd is ancient. He is an aspect we have forgotten when we believe Nature is a distant place outside of ourselves. We evoke him to remember the deep and ancient parts of our own hearts.

Wolf Shepard evokes.. prayers sent to the Sun God, apothecary drawers, and ancestral visitations.

ARTEMIS AT DAWN | Artemis, the goddess of the bitches who howl at the moon. She is the virgin huntress, protectress of the wilds. Her virginity is a reflection of her self sufficiency, rather than her chastity. Her sensuality is for herself. When we turn inward and explore our internal moonlit forests, she is there.

Artemis at Dawn evokes...running barefoot, flanked by your pack, taking a bite out of a rose.

GREEN MAN | The Green Man is an aspect of the masculine that needs re-membering. The life affirming vitality of the Green Man sparks vigorous, yet harmonious, growth.  The Green Man is masculine fecundity, his spirit is there in the heliotropic movement of plants swaying with the sun.

Green Man evokes...midnight, moon lit walkin’, campfire singin’, dew drop lickin’.

Ingredients: Biodynamic Spirits*, Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis)*, Essential Oils of Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides)* & Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea)*

PERSEPHONE EMERGES | Persephone Emerges evokes...bee legs heavy with pollen, ecstasy of bare skin exposed to the first warm spring day, & pollinating a tulip with your tongue. Wafts of fresh cut cedar behind heavy gates laden with blooming jasmine, slicing into a grapefruit while crushing a coriander seed between your back teeth.

Gender inclusive scent, made for all bodies, minds and hearts.

|| ABOUT FAT & THE MOON ||

Continuing a family legacy of herbalists and natural healers, Fat and the Moon founder Rachel Budde has built her company around providing handcrafted, herbal body care products to those seeking a natural alternative to chemical-filled products. Like a witch over a cauldron, Budde experiments with age-old ingredients and recipes passed down from various healing traditions to craft innovative and simple products that are good for the body and the earth. Fat and the Moon started as an alternative to the toxic, mass production body care industry aiming to provide nourishing ingredients and nourishing messages of self love, and self care.

And if you were wondering why 'Fat and the Moon'....
Fat as the first word in the name of my business has gotten me in some interesting discussions. People ask me about the name all the time because they can hardly believe I would use a word that has such negative connotations, especially when it is used within ‘beauty care’.

In part, I use the word ‘fat’ to be provocative; I don’t believe fat is a dirty word. But most of the fat in Fat and the Moon comes from my love of the material- oil is the medium of external herbal medicine. Fat in the form of oil, is the gift of the seed. Fat, both in plants and animals, is where energy is stored. The richness we taste in food, and the suppleness we feel on our skin after a good slather of bath oil, is our bodies recognition of and pleasure in that vital energy. Oil from plants, in and of itself, is medicinal. I feel honored as a medicine maker to indulge in the play of fat and herbs, especially under the influence of the moon.
