"Somewhere" could be anywhere. This particular somewhere happens to be in the coastal hills of northern California. It's just a place, like any other place, except it turns out to have a fascinating everyday history. Actually, every place has an everyday history, and it's all probably equally fascinating. People, however, tend to be blinded by the light of a few special places and a few big events, and so the everyday histories are rarely learned. An everyday history tells of the people, the places, and the times which other books are in to much of a hurry to talk about.
