LIP PAINT || FAT AND THE MOON
Holler to all my lipstick loving babes.Adorning your hot self should be fun and carefree, so, like, why are all of these crazy chems in our makeup killing our good vibes? Let’s keep things reeeeeal simple. Cosmetic grade mineral pigment, sunny sunflower oil, beeswax and a splash of Vitamin E for good measure!Simple doesn’t mean boring. I’ve whipped up colors that I’ve been dreaming of...brick reds, bombshell lavender, sandy oranges, 90’s nudes and deep wines! It’s like painting in my studio!
| CLAY IDOL | I have a serious love and fascination with clay idols- ancient and contemporary. They speak to the earth being the source of all things and to the power of transformation and imagination. This may be my personal favorite because of its associations, but mostly because I love how it looks on! The color is subtle yet just the right amount of surprising. Clay Idol is a matte Lip Paint and don’t be surprised if you attract a little worship when you rock it.
Ingredients: sunflower oil*, cosmetic grade iron oxide, beeswax, vitamin E* *organic
| DUSK | Dusk and sunrise are my favorite parts of the day- they are truly the magic hours. This color is inspired by that hazy, pinkish lavender that only shows itself in the sky during those times. Dusk on feels like a mellowed and well traveled 70’s bombshell. This color is very matte. You may also use a bit on your sweet cheeks for a lovely effect.
Ingredients: sunflower oil*, cosmetic grade mineral oxide, cosmetic grade manganese violet, beeswax, vitamin E* *organic
| HECATE | Oh Hecate, goddess of the veil between light and dark- deep dreamer and night watcher your dark grace inspires the heck outta me! Hecate is that juicy wine color that adds just the right amount of drama without being the drama queen, you feel me? Hecate is semi-matte so you can add more or less for impact. If you are familiar, think of Hecate as the night time version of the Lip & Cheek Stain.
Ingredients: sunflower oil*, cosmetic grade manganese violet, cosmetic grade iron oxide, beeswax, vitamin E* *organic
| MORTAR & PESTLE | Mortar & Pestle is that brick red I speak of. When I break out the pigment that makes this color, I can’t help to ohh and ahh. The red is coppery and earthy, bright and deep at the same time. When the color is on those lips, the ‘ohh and ahh’ effect is taken to a whole new level. Blue eyes pop, olive tones glow and dark hair feels a little more dramatic. Mortar & Pestle is a matte Lip Paint, and a little goes a long way. I normally have a hell of a time keeping lipstick on and I have kept this color on for 4 hours AND I ate and drank in between (I’m a snacker)! Booya.
Ingredients: sunflower oil*, cosmetic grade iron oxide, beeswax, vitamin E* *organic
| WOOD NYMPH | Nude. What a fun word. Being nude is different than being naked; it’s classy naked. (Fat and the Moon’s latest Lip Paint color,) Wood Nymph arises from visions of dancing nubile forest spirits. And, in case you were wondering, forest spirits dance exclusively in the nude. Along with mischievous forest spirits, Wood Nymph also evokes that nostalgic 90’s lip.
Ingredients: sunflower oil*, cosmetic grade iron oxide, beeswax, vitamin E* *organic

Embedded within the metallic red depths of Zlata Baba is the Spirit Medicine of Yarrow. Yarrow supports us in knowing, and sometimes upholding the edges of our energetic membrane. || ABOUT FAT & THE MOON ||
Continuing a family legacy of herbalists and natural healers, Fat and the Moon founder Rachel Budde has built her company around providing handcrafted, herbal body care products to those seeking a natural alternative to chemical-filled products. Like a witch over a cauldron, Budde experiments with age-old ingredients and recipes passed down from various healing traditions to craft innovative and simple products that are good for the body and the earth. Fat and the Moon started as an alternative to the toxic, mass production body care industry aiming to provide nourishing ingredients and nourishing messages of self love, and self care.
And if you were wondering why 'Fat and the Moon'....
Fat as the first word in the name of my business has gotten me in some interesting discussions. People ask me about the name all the time because they can hardly believe I would use a word that has such negative connotations, especially when it is used within ‘beauty care’.
In part, I use the word ‘fat’ to be provocative; I don’t believe fat is a dirty word. But most of the fat in Fat and the Moon comes from my love of the material- oil is the medium of external herbal medicine. Fat in the form of oil, is the gift of the seed. Fat, both in plants and animals, is where energy is stored. The richness we taste in food, and the suppleness we feel on our skin after a good slather of bath oil, is our bodies recognition of and pleasure in that vital energy. Oil from plants, in and of itself, is medicinal. I feel honored as a medicine maker to indulge in the play of fat and herbs, especially under the influence of the moon.
